Tyres rarely fail without warning. The steering wheel may start vibrating at speed, the car may pull to one side, or the tyre pressure light may come on. Look at the tyre itself as well. Cracks in the rubber, a bulge on the sidewall or tread worn down to the small bars in the grooves all mean it’s time to act. Those bars sit at 1.6mm, the UK legal limit, so once the tread is level with them, the tyre needs replacing.
Lancashire’s wet weather makes worn tyres more dangerous, because shallow tread can’t clear water from the road surface as well. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t keep driving and hope for the best. Pull over somewhere safe and call us. With our 24 hour tyres service, a fitter can come out whatever the time, so you aren’t stuck waiting until morning for help.
